FAQ

At what age can my student start attending?

  • We work with students aged four and up who are able to focus for 10-15 minutes.

How many times a week will my student come to the center and for how long is each visit?

  • April 2020: Due to COVID-19, we are offering the Gideon at Home Correspondence Plan with online sessions using the same booklets.
  • Most students attend twice a week for center visits and complete Gideon assignments at home the other days. However, you can come once a week or request extra classes for an additional fee.
  • Each center visit is typically 20 - 30 minutes per subject to do individual daily assignments, complete any old corrections, and review new material.  A Gideon instructor will be at the table with the students to assist as needed.  We maintain a 2:1 student to teacher ratio for Young Learners (aged 4-8) or 4:1 ratio for Independent Learners (aged 9 and up).

What level of work will my student be doing?

  • During the free placement evaluation, we will find a 'just right' point in the Gideon curriculum based on what skills your student shows as mastered in order to fill any holes and gaps in his foundation.  Read more about the importance of mastering lower levels HERE. Download a full curriculum listing HERE.
  • Our goal is to build confidence through mastery with progress right from the start to encourage focus and concentration.

Does Gideon work with students with learning differences such as dyslexia?

  • Yes, the Gideon program works well for most students, including those with learning differences.  While school must continue on its schedule, we have the luxury to allow the student to set the pace and do any extra practice needed to truly master each level.  If your student has dyslexia, read THIS to find out why Gideon is a good solution.

Does Gideon work with students with special needs such as autism?

  • Yes, the Gideon program works with many special needs students.  We can evaluate further if Gideon is a good fit when we meet your student during the free placement evaluation.

How do we get the MOST out of Gideon?

  • Simply doing the daily work consistently will result in great progress, but review these tips for parents HERE.

Let's get started.

About

Welcome Frisco and McKinney neighbors!  At Gideon Math & Reading, we are a family business!

I, Aarti Dewan, am a mother, a teacher, and a Gideon Math & Reading owner and director.  After acquiring my Texas teaching certification through SMU, I spent several years teaching in both private and public schools and also began to tutor. My husband and I chose to raise our children here because we saw the value placed on family and education. As my own children began school, I searched for an enrichment program that would give them a strong academic foundation and help them develop discipline. We ended up at Gideon Math & Reading, and I was so impressed with their philosophy and curriculum that I opened my own center in 2014! The community’s response to our Frisco center was so exciting! We wanted the Gideon benefits to be accessible to even more area families, so we added the McKinney center in 2018.

I strive to provide an overall experience that I would like for myself and my own children with flexible class scheduling, reports after each class, and periodic conferences. Your child will reap the benefits of a personalized, customized approach with lessons based on your child’s ability and mastery, not a ‘grade’ or ‘age’ assignment. You benefit from a ‘team’ approach of the director & teachers giving parents personal attention and continual feedback.

Every child will gain knowledge and skills, increased confidence, and self-discipline! We hope to grow their enthusiasm for and enjoyment in learning! I invite you to join our Gideon family! My pledge to you is my tireless time and dedication to your child’s growth. Watch your child gain confidence through mastery!

One thing that Gideon offered me that not a lot of other places did was the ability to cater towards my learning style. This has mostly to with how the owner Mrs.Aarti runs the center caring equally for her students that attend for educational growth in addition to her employees that undoubtably take from her and her uncanny ability to develop a child’s heart and center it around learning. In addition I came as a student about to graduate 👨🏾‍🎓 highschool in my senior year. Gedion was able to make a potentially oversized student feel welcome and able to be educated in a comfortable family oriented education and growth driven environment. I can’t thank Mrs.Aarti enough and the rest of her staff for how they were able to help me at my age then, bridge a gap that had not been for a long time, in such a short amount of time.Thank you 🙏🏾 Gedion, thank you Mrs.Aarti and your amazing team! 💜

Our daughter is doing so much better with both math and reading.. the teachers are very good and they provide a very friendly environment for the kids. The business owner Aarti is very much invested on the progress the kids make and in ensuring parents receive updates and information needed to support their children. We love it here!

My daughter Kamila, started Gideon a few months ago, she was struggling with math and having a hard time at school. At first she was not very happy with the idea of math tutoring, but after only her first time at Gideon, she was super excited to attend. She has improved so much and we can already tell the difference. She used to not enjoy math at all, and now, even though it’s not her favorite, she looks forward to Gideon. I can not thank you enough for what you guys have done!! I highly recommend Gideon!!

My child has been enrolled at Gideon Frisco for past 18 months. I have seen great improvement with his reading and math skills. The ratios are low and teachers take their time to help each student. As parents, we receive feedback after each class and also regular conferences to monitor the progress.

Since two years my daughter was going to Gideon. At present she is in 5th grade. Trust me there is lot of improvement on my daughter progress card. The main reason is the management; how keen there were on each student. I sincerely appreciate Arati; the time she spends with the parents in explaining what they need. She explains the Student if needed by herself. I appreciate Vinita for all her coordination with student and parents for any missed classes. I am so so impressed the dedication they have.... . I guess Gideon is a systematic program that align with any ISD curriculum. Always my daughter loves to go to Gideon.

Our son started Gideon midway through the school year. We came to Gideon because my son was struggling with math. At first he was very resistant and did not want to do it. He kept asking why he could not just get a tutor. I kept telling him a tutor will not help you get faster at answering math questions and help you prepare for the Staar test. After one week my son loved going to Gideon and still does. He takes it as a challenge to do well on the weekly test. We were so impressed with Gideon and Ms. Aarti that we put our other son in Gideon to keep his math skills up to speed. Ms. Aarti and her staff make the kids feel comfortable an encourage them to do well. We have continued Gideon over the summer and I'm confident they are prepared for the upcoming school year.

We enrolled our 4th grader last year at Gideon and have seen major improvements in her math skills. Her STAAR test scores prove the advancement made last year. Aarti and her staff are great to work with. They are always there to help out kids and provide regular feedback to parents.

We started Gideon for my son. He was just starting 5th grade and we wanted him to be able to test out of 6th grade math by exam. The Gideon program not only helped him pass the test but also gave him a head start on his 7th grade math class. In Gideon, he had already covered a lot of the material he now has in 7th grade math so he is having no trouble keeping up, despite having skipped a year. My 3rd grader has also been doing Gideon for the past year, both math and reading. I think it is definitely helping her with the little details that she doesn't always absorb in school as well as with her math facts. I think this program is great both for kids that want to get ahead and for those that need some help catching up!

We have been going to Gideon close to a year now. My main reason for getting supplemental math and reading help for my 10 and 7 year old is that me and my husband are not very effective teachers or tutors and we know that. Gideon has helped keep study times at home peaceful because the kids are not struggling with math and reading concepts. Gideon follows a focused program that helps kids with the foundations for math and reading that they usually breeze through in school. Over the past months, both kids have improved in school and has boosted their confidence as a result. Ms. Arati, the owner makes an effort to tailor the program to the child. Her entire staff is wonderful with kids. My kids are quick to complain if they are not comfortable in a place but they are always happy to go to Gideon. If my 14 year-old was not already so busy, she would also be going here too just to keep on top of her math.

My daughter started at Gideon 6 mos ago and I am so happy with her overall progress. In her preschool, she really didn't learn much. But within 6 mos, she can read all the step 1 reading books, learnt how to form sentences, and her math skills have improved so much. She's doing really great in Kindergarten compared to all other students. I love the overall structure, curriculum, and material offered at Gideon. I specially like the Preston center run by Arti since she's always on the floor answering questions or any concerns that we have. Love all the staff too. My daughter is very comfortable working with them and the staff really encourages her. Thanks a Bunch!!

My daughter had just turned 4 when she started attending this particular Gideon location last year. I wanted to know how long it will take before she is able to read and write. That was 8 months ago and a lot has happened since then. My daughter has within this short time frame grown into a confident little girl who can read well and write with confidence. The program outline is simply phenomenal and the teachers are seriously dedicated and vested in the children. The owner of this Gideon is an amazingly dedicated educator who genuinely cares about her pupils. I have witnessed her outstanding tutoring skills with her style of teaching, interaction with students, patience and dedication even where the child is developmentally challenged. Keep up the good work Arti. We appreciate your hard work and dedication.

Our three young children have been in both reading and math here for over a year. All three of them have greatly developed their skills! Both programs are flexible enough to really challenge our older child while keeping the younger ones engaged and moving ahead. They are all excelling in school now!High quality sets Gideon apart from other programs the kids have been in--great service and excellent materials.

Gideon is an academic program designed to improve reading and/or mathematics. It is structured around daily activities in workbooks which are designed to challenge students with progressive difficulty. Daily work is intended to be supervised/coached by parents and students meet two times per week with instructors at the Gideon facility.I have three young children--ages 6, 5 and 5 (twin boys). All currently enrolled in both reading and math; we've been here for four months. My six year old just completed kindergarten in a public school and the twins just completed pre-k in a well-known private school. These schools are rated excellent. I've had my children in several other academic programs over the last three years similar to Gideon. With the background established, you might be wondering about the need for an extracurricular program for reading and math since my children are already in great schools. It's been my observation that public school has placed a lot of emphasis on socialization as opposed to academics. The private school we attend is focused on hands on work. Gideon offers pure academic focus which improves the students ability to perform work and perform work under to specific standards--mastery is assessed weekly and students move on or repeat. The results of this program have been excellent. Not only have my children improved their understanding of reading and math; I've also observed a increased confidence in their social interactions and interest in applying the math they learn.I feel like this program in closing the delta between what my children should be learning at this age and what they are receiving at school. Public school cirriculum seems very unorganized with random handouts with lesson plans all over the place. My daughter--public kindergarten--was learning elements of algebra along with basic arithmetic concepts. (??)There is a focus on results at Gideon, and I find the program much more focused on coaching a child to master basic operations than the other academic programs in which I've had my children. It is also very progressive and the curriculum is very strongly locked together. The owner of this location, Aarti Dewan, is great. She has a background in both public and private education, so she knows what is being taught in schools and what is not. She is always busy running the center, but she will always take time to say hi and always seems to be in a great mood. When time permits (about once a week), she will also spends a few extra minutes discussing my children's progress--focal areas, the kid's personalities and so on. She is immediately very likable and naturally very funny but also focused and intense. It was her personality more than anything that convinced me to sign up and I am quite happy with my decision. The rest of the staff at Gideon Central Frisco are very nice and polite. I think Gideon trains children all the way into high school, so it's not a preK-elementary program only. I've found the older students here very polite.Great job!

Our 6 year old has been going to this Gideon center for last 8 months. During these 8 months we have seen great progress in her Maths and Reading skills. This Gideon center is run very professionally and uses all appropriate Gideon learning materials. Our daughter used to go to another Gideon center in Frisco which used non-Gideon materials, which we were not happy about. But at this center, the director is personally involved and is always available at the center. The student to teacher ratio is also very good and the teachers are very friendly. There are times when the kids take more than 45 min allocated time, but the teachers are patient and help the kids finish their entire work section - even if it means spending more than allocated 45 min.Thank you Gideon and the wonderful staff at this center.

I used to attend Kumon, and I previously worked at another tutoring center; however, in comparison to the tow, Gideon has proved to be different than the other two centers. While Kumon and other tutoring centers attempt to teach students the material they are learning in school, which is beneficial short term, Gideon is providing its students a fundamental foundation in math and reading that will help them both in the short and long term in school. By working at Gideon, I have seen many improvements in many of the students. Initially, as most students are, they will struggle and move slowly, I know I did when I had trouble in school, but as Gideon builds upon their mastery in a topic, the work gets done quickly and is thoroughly done with detail and the students actually understand what they are learning. If any parent wants their student to catch up in school, or get ahead, Gideon is a wonderful place to take them because the students actually enjoy their time there as well. The students have the chance to work all the instructors, which exposes them to the fact that every teacher has a different method, but it truly depends on the student how they decide how to utilize the information the instructor provides them.

My son has been going to Gideon for the past 3 months and there is already a noticeable improvement in his mental math abilities which his teacher as well as the parents of other kids in his class have commented on while playing math related games. Gideon ensures that kids get regular practice during the week which gives them the confidence to solve problems.

My 4 year old daughter has been going to the Gideon in Central Frisco ever since it opened and we are very happy with the progress made by her. Classes are twice a week and I’m pleasantly surprised that she looks forward to go there every time! She used to go to a different Gideon and we noticed a few things which set this place apart from the previous one: - The quality and timeliness of the feedback we received on the progress of our daughter personally by Ms. Aarthi, the owner and a teacher herself, was invaluable. She’s on the floor every day personally supervising all the students and tutors. I think her experience as a teacher for public and private schools for many years factors into this aspect.- The student to tutor ratio is 3:1 or less which is a step up from the previous place and the student area is quite spacious as well. - My daughter loves the small rewards she gets for passing tests and the effort she puts in which is positive reinforcement and quite motivating for her. - The tutors seem to be quite competent and friendly. My daughter loves working with them on her lessons every time.I believe this place is well organized and well run by a motivated owner and staff. Highly recommended!
